WEBINAR: Latin America (Brazil) Inside Insights – Opportunities in Marine Renewable Energy

NOTE: This opportunity has expired or is an event which has already taken place.

Date: February 24, 2021
Time: ~ 2:30 pm NST

Latin America hosts some of the world’s most dynamic renewable energy markets and has signaled an ambition to use its renewable resources to achieve a low-carbon energy transition. In 2019, the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE) announced a regional goal of reaching at least 70% renewable energy in electricity by 2030. The target involves reaching a total installed capacity of 312 GW of renewables capacity by that time – a significant proportion of which should come from non-conventional renewable energy. In addition to the historical role of hydropower and pioneering moves with biofuels, countries in the region are significantly scaling up other renewable energy sources.

The Brazilian market in particular, has been an area of recent focus in the region as initiatives in renewable energy continue to grow and attract international players. With nearly 8,000 kilometers of coastline, Brazil has immense potential for offshore wind power and recently launched an Offshore Wind Roadmap to better understand the potential for development.
Join Marine Renewables Canada and international business consultant, Marcos Miranda, to learn more about the expanding renewable energy market in Latin America, with a focus on Brazil’s potential for offshore wind, and what opportunities exist for Canadian companies. After a year in Brazil working with the Brazilian Federal Government, regional energy associations and private corporations, Mr. Miranda has seen firsthand the changes and shifts in the economy and political and energy scenario, presenting new opportunities and insights. Those shifts are happening right now as a consequence of COVID 19 and new political priorities.
