Building on the information from the November 2014 “Spotlight on Turkey” event, ADIANL and NEIA are pleased to host “Turkey: In Depth – A detailed sector-specific session on doing business in Turkey”.
According to HSBC’s ‘The World in 2050’ report, Turkey will be the world’s 12th and Europe’s fourth biggest economy by 2050. Turkey aims to be among the world’s 10 largest economies by 2023, on the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Republic.

- Murat Özdemir – Country Advisor for Canada & Midwest U.S., Republic of Turkey Prime Ministry, Investment Support and Promotion Agency of Turkey (ISPAT)

Based out of Toronto, Mr. Özdemir is serving as the Country Advisor for Canada and Midwest U.S. at ISPAT, the official organization for promoting Turkey’s investment opportunities to the global business community and providing free-of-charge services to investors before, during and after their entry into Turkey.
Before joining ISPAT in 2011, he worked for private sector companies and gained hands-on experience on investment project management at large scale energy projects and business consulting experience on supply chain management at multinational environments.
Born in Adana, Turkey in 1979, he received B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Industrial Engineering from Istanbul Technical University and Sabanci University, respectively.
- Mike Ward – Director, Canadian-Turkish Business Council

Mike Ward is a former Canadian diplomat who served in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Poland, Ukraine, the United States and Thailand. During his posting to Turkey he advocated for, opened (in 2010) and then headed the new Canadian Consulate in Istanbul. During his many years of diplomatic service, Mr. Ward managed economic, political, trade and commercial affairs.
Mr. Ward is a Director with the Canadian-Turkish Business Council (CTBC). In that capacity, he works closely with officials at DEIK, the CTBC’s Turkish counterpart organization, to plan and execute various events in Canada and Turkey to promote bilateral trade and investment. He also advocates with Canadian politicians and bureaucrats to advance such policy issues as a Canada/Turkey Free Trade Arrangement and for the formation of a bilateral Joint Economic and Trade Committee. During his tenure in Turkey (2007-2011) he was a strong advocate of negotiations for a Bilateral Air Transport Agreement between Canada and Turkey. Once those negotiations were completed, he was invited on the inaugural THY flight from Istanbul to Toronto.
He currently serves as a senior international business consultant with two organizations, and has spoken at numerous conferences and public policy forums in Canada and abroad on trade-related issues. For example, in 2012 he was invited to speak before the Senate of Canada Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade when it examined various aspects of the Canada/Turkey bilateral relationship. In addition to the above, Mr. Ward serves on the Board of the NATO Council of Canada.
In terms of community service, Mr. Ward is Vice President of the Ottawa-based Multifaith Housing Initiative, an NGO that provides affordable rental housing to those in need. Additionally, he is a facilitator with The Oasis in Kanata, which offers a support network to caregivers of mentally ill family members.
He attended both Carleton University and the University of Toronto and has degrees in psychology and business.

Tony has been involved with UK-Turkish partnerships since 1999, during which time he has worked with hundreds of companies to develop opportunities. Tony has worked for both UK Government business support programmes and Turkish business support agencies, making connections between Turkey and the UK.
As a result, Tony has visited Turkey some 50 times and has been working with his partner, Murat for the last 15 years in these endeavours. Tony is also very familiar with Atlantic Canada and Newfoundland in particular having worked with companies from the Province over a number of years.
- Murat Tenekecioglu – Granit Consulting

Murat is based in Istanbul and is a Certified Public Accountant, operating his own mid-size independent practise, Granit Consulting, www.granitymm.com, which is recognised as being a leading independent practice, with a reputation for integrity. Apart from accounting, Murat’s firm is also involved in helping foreign companies to understand the Turkish market and develop their business strategies. As such, he has worked on very many assignments for companies from across the World, particularly working with Tony for the UK and has also worked with major Quebec companies in the energy and aerospace sectors, developing the Turkish market and supporting market entry.
