Towards Sustainable Mining initiative provides tools and indicators for energy performance

From Natural Resources Canada:

“Toward Sustainable Mining (TSM) is an industry-wide, performance-based program. Its main objective is to enable mining companies to operate in the most socially, economically, and environmentally responsible way. All MAC members participate in TSM at the facility level by committing to a set of guiding principles and to annual self-assessed performance reports and ratings. TSM assessments are verified externally every three years.

Companies are rated against six key performance areas: communities and people, crisis management planning, safety and health, tailings management, biodiversity conservation management, and energy use and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions management. Protocols and guidance documents are available for each of these areas, and free on-line training, consisting of eight modules, is available for members on the MAC website.”
