Tidy Towns Judges wanted

NOTE: This opportunity has expired or is an event which has already taken place.

Have you ever considered exploring the underground mines of Bell Island or wanted to see the breathtakingly gorgeous and wild terrain of Fogo Island? Newfoundland and Labrador communities are brimming with hidden treasures and MNL is currently seeking to expand our team of Tidy Towns judges to find them.

Designed as a friendly community competition, MNL’s community enhancement program, Tidy Towns, is a program to help Newfoundlanders and Labradorians beautify and enhance their streets and public spaces. This program also acts as a catalyst for councils and residents to work collectively and implement positive changes and improvements within their communities.

During the months of July and August, teams of judges visit and evaluate more than 50 registered communities from across the province and choose the winning municipalities. Judges will travel our scenic highways and soak up the local sites, taking pictures, learning local folklore and meeting the people who make up our rich culture while recording both the cultivated and natural beauty of our communities.

Applicants must have excellent written and oral communications skills, a flexible schedule and the ability to travel throughout the province. A judges training session is mandatory for all first time judges. Travel costs are covered by MNL.

If you are interested in participating as a Tidy Towns judge please contact Stephen Quinton, Tidy Towns program coordinator at 753-6820 or via email at squinton@municipalnl.ca or visit the MNL/Tidy Towns booth at the Landscape and Garden show this Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 5pm at the Jack Byrne Arena.

Tidy Towns is a partnership with Communities in Bloom, Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador, Newfoundland and Labrador Women’s Institutes, NL Association of Landscape Architects, Multi-Materials Stewardship Board (MMSB), and Atlantic Planners Institute, NL Branch.

The Tidy Towns program is funded in part by the Department of Municipal Affairs.
