The Panamanian government has a five-year plan to invest in major infrastructure projects worth $13.4 billion.
The Canada-Panama Free Trade Agreement (FTA) will give Canadian suppliers preferred access to the government procurement market in Panama.
The Canada-Panama Free Trade Agreement came into force on April 1, 2013, paving the way to increased export and investment opportunities for Canadian firms by creating a preferential and more predictable trade and investment environment in one of Latin America’s leading economies.
“The agreement will immediately eliminate tariffs on more than 90 percent of Canadian goods exported to Panama, benefiting a wide range of sectors, including aerospace, pharmaceuticals, pulp and paper, and agriculture and agri-food”
– The Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas and Consular Affairs)
Elements covered by the FTA include: market access for goods, cross-border trade in services, telecommunications, investment and financial services.
