December 7-14, 2013
On behalf of our partners in Canada and Brazil, International Science and Technology Partnerships Canada (ISTPCanada), SmartGrid Canada, and Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Development Canada (DFATD) are pleased to invite you to participate in the Canada-Brazil Smart Grid Technology Partnering Mission from December 7-14, 2013 in Brazil.
This week-long program will focus on market-driven opportunities for R&D and business collaboration, in a wide spectrum of smart grid technologies, such as distribution automation, advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), energy storage, and fault/loss detection technologies, among others. The goal of the mission is to help forge new partnerships between leading Canadian smart grid technology companies, utilities and researchers with potential partners from Brazil including:
- State utility companies with responsibility for energy generation and distribution across the country;
- World-class researchers from top research institutes and academic institutions who drive innovation in smart grid technologies;
- Smart grid technology companies that specialize in information and communications technologies; sensing and measurement technologies; automation and controls; and other smart grid solutions;
- Smart grid system integrators and solution providers.
This mission provides an opportunity to:
- Identify and meet new R&D partners;
- Participate in site visits and learn about existing grid technologies and market opportunities first-hand;
- Explore potential R&D and business opportunities;
- Discuss shared R&D interests, project ideas and opportunities for research collaboration; and advance existing partnerships.
Industry-led Canadian-Brazilian R&D teams, including those established during this matchmaking mission, may also leverage ISTPCanada-Brazil funding for R&D collaboration leading to a commercial solution. In addition, qualified companies may be eligible to receive up to 50 percent of mission travel costs from ISTPCanada, while qualified researchers and utility firms may eligible to receive a subsidy for up to 50 percent of the total mission travel costs from SmartGrid Canada.
