RFP: Plans for processing locally grown cranberries in NL for the domestic and foreign markets

Objective

The Cranberry Association is considering processing locally grown cranberries in NL for the domestic and foreign markets, as production is steadily increasing.

Deadline Dates

For all components of the project:

  • February 29, 2016 – Market Research for both Domestic & Caribbean
  • February 29, 2016 – Complete list of processing equipment, equipment layout and size of building required.
  • February 29, 2016 – Business plan for Co-op

Background

In 2009 there was a major drive to increase cranberry production in NL, the industry has grown from 40 acres in 2009 to over 200 today and expected to grow to 450 acres over the next 4-5 years. Production in 2014 reached 1,000,000 and estimates are 8-10 million over the next 8-10 years.

Service/ Work Required

Work required includes:

  • Complete report on the domestic and Caribbean markets including; cranberry juice, sweet & dried cranberries, fresh cranberries, frozen cranberries and cranberry juice concentrate.
  • Equipment needed to wash and clean 1,000,000 lbs of cranberries per week.
  • Equipment needed to blast freeze 1,000,000 lbs of cranberries per week.
  • Size of cold storage to hold 8,000,000 lbs of cranberries.
  • Equipment needed for cranberry juice (1000 lb/hr), juice concentrate(1000 lb/hr), sweet & dried cranberries (1000 lb raw material – 8 hrs) and to bag fresh and frozen cranberries (12 oz bag to 40 lb box)
  • Detailed drawing of equipment layout and processing plant with finished product holding area, blast freezer, freezer space and receiving station for bulk container.

Pricing

Quotation should include total cost (HST included) of all components of the service & work requirements. Quotation on cost needed ASAP; there is some flexibility on the deadline to complete work.

Proponent

Proponent shall identify relevant management, administration and financial capability as well as technical and necessary skills, qualifications and experience that they consider appropriate to the evaluation of their ability to successfully undertake the proposed contract.
