Provincial government seeking households for energy saving pilot project

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is offering homeowners the opportunity to be involved in a pilot project that evaluates the effect of real-time energy data in participating homes.

“We are excited to launch this pilot project to explore the effectiveness of different approaches to helping households conserve energy. I encourage homeowners to get involved in this project and take responsibility for learning more about their energy consumption. Saving energy saves money and protects the environment.”
-The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister Responsible for the Office of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency

The purpose of the study is to understand how Newfoundlanders and Labradorians will change their electricity consumption behavior when provided with information about their electricity use. Some homes will have real-time energy monitors installed informing them daily about their energy consumption, while others will simply be supplied with tips to save energy.

“We are very pleased to partner with the Provincial Government and we encourage homeowners to sign up. It’s a great opportunity to lower your energy costs and to be part of an important provincial project to determine how real-time electricity monitoring influences energy conservation actions.”
– Dawn Dalley, Vice-president Corporate Relations and Customer Service, Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is currently seeking 750 households to participate in the pilot project. Details can be found at http://bit.ly/1CP4mfL or the takeCHARGE! website at www.takechargenl.ca.

Launching later this year, the project will continue until December 2015 and the results will be used for planning future electrical energy conservation initiatives in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The application deadline is October 24, 2014.
