Elements of Newfoundland and Labrador’s environmental legislation have been identified as being outdated, misleading, or not comprehensive. This is particularly true in relation to the Water and Sewage Regulations, the Storage and Handling of Gasoline and Associated Products Regulations, and the Environmental Protection Act. Updated legislation can increase process efficiency and environmental protection. Legislation and regulations can be supported by ‘Codes of Practice / Guidance’ which outline project pathways for both the government and proponent. These documents provide consistency, predictability, and efficiency for both parties but are under-utilized and/or outdated in Newfoundland and Labrador.
