The PEOPLE Symposium (Oct. 17, open to the public) is co-hosted with the 2019 Atlantic Symposium of Canadian Association on Water Quality (CAWQ). The topics will cover the fate, behavior, and environmental impacts of PEOPs (e.g., petroleum hydrocarbons, chemical surfactants, fire retardants, microplastics, pharmaceutical and personal care products, and engineered nanoparticles) and the development of cost-efficient prevention, control and remediation technologies and management tools to support policy-making and industrial practices. Participants/stakeholders can share their views on the emerging areas of concern, knowledge gaps, research needs, and action plans. It will particularly provide a good opportunity for the Network researchers and students to disseminate their findings and get a good understanding of the multidisciplinary needs of industries, governments, and communities.
The PEOPLE Workshop (Oct. 18. by invitation only) will be attended by PEOPLE Network members/partners/advisors and invited guests to meet and discuss our collaboration plan. The goal is to strengthen our cross-disciplinary training environment assembling world-class expertise and facilities targeting the significant scientific challenges and urgent market needs in addressing the growing concerns caused by PEOPs.
