Manager, Safety, Health and Environment (4 Year Term)
Holyrood Thermal Generating Station (HTGS)

Competition Number: NLH-16-119
Location: Holyrood

This is a high impact safety, health and environmental leadership role for an exceptional individual who enjoys and excels in both strategic and operational aspects of the environmental and safety and health field.

Reporting to the Manager-Thermal Generation, you will lead a team in the delivery of Safety, Health and Environmental services for the HTGS. You will provide overall strategic leadership, insight, and direction, utilizing best practices, in the administration of the Safety and Health Program and Environmental Management System. Key areas of focus will include: safety programs, management systems, regulatory compliance, contractor management, incident investigations, safety and environment related training, and reporting.

You will also be accountable to oversee the environmental monitoring and reporting: stack emissions, ambient air quality, wastewater treatment effluent, and environmental containment systems. You will supervise, direct, and coordinate the operation of the Water Treatment Plant, Waste Water Treatment Plant, Boiler Chemistry, Environmental Monitoring Network, Emergency Response and the Laboratory.

You are responsible for personal safety and that of co-workers by observing and promoting the Corporation’s Safety and Health Program. You are responsible for any environmental aspects of the job and performing work in an environmentally responsible manner.

Job Requirements:
To excel in this position you will need to bring the following:

  • You have graduated from a recognized university with a degree in science or engineering;
  • Additional training in Environmental Management is a must, coupled with training in Occupational Health and Safety;
  • You must have a minimum of ten years’ progressively experience, preferably in industry, providing sound leadership in a senior environmental and safety management role;
  • A comprehensive understanding of progressive safety, occupational health and environmental processes;
  • Ability to influence the development and maintenance of positive relationships with multiple stakeholders related to safety, health and environmental programs;
  • Ability to thrive as a participant and/or leader within a multi-discipline team of both internal and external resources;
  • Proven and demonstrated communication skills;
