JOB OPPORTUNITY: Exploration Geologist – C-NLOPB

The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NLOPB) is the authority that regulates the offshore oil and gas industry off the coasts of Newfoundland and Labrador, on behalf of the governments of Canada and the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The C-NLOPB is committed to the oversight of oil and gas exploration and development in a responsible, safe and environmentally sound manner.

Located in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, the C-NLOPB regulates an offshore area larger than the U.S Gulf of Mexico, with world class production and exploration assets. The C-NLOPB is looking for talented people to contribute to the oversight and growth of the oil and gas industry in Newfoundland and Labrador. The C-NLOPB invites applications for the position of Exploration Geologist.

The Exploration Geologist will be a member of the C-NLOPB’s Exploration Department. Reporting to the Director, Exploration, the responsibilities of this position include:

  • Conducting geological analysis and interpretation of well log and core data
  • Participating in studies and special projects related to regional geoscientific assessments of offshore basins
  • Providing technical input into the C-NLOPB land tenure system
  • Coordinating and conducting reviews related to technical applications, program authorizations, well approvals, and data submission
  • Maintaining geological databases
  • Monitoring exploration programs (geological/drilling) to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Other related duties assigned as required.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of sedimentary geological processes, functional geological workstation experience and possess well log interpretation and core logging skills. Experience with Petrel would be considered an asset.

Applicants should have at least 5 years experience in the oil and gas industry and must possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Earth Science/Geology. Eligibility for registration with the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEG-NL) is required.
