JOB OPPORTUNITY: Environmental Assessment Specialist Job (Golder Associates)

Job Responsibilities:

Golder Associates Ltd. is seeking an Environmental Assessment Specialist for the St. John’s location for a 12 Month contract.

The successful candidate will participate in Environmental Assessment (EA) studies and help prepare EA reports. The tasks will include, but not be limited to:

  • Leading research, writing, compiling and editing EA reports and related deliverables for a variety of projects across multiple sectors;
  • Providing advice and guidance to clients on requirements relating to EA within the context of Municipal, Provincial, Federal and/or International regulations;
  • Leading small to medium project teams, and assisting Senior EA practitioners in the management of large inter-disciplinary and multi-stakeholder EA projects, including project scheduling, tracking budgets and preparing regular progress reports;
  • Leading, coordinating and communicating with technical teams and clients to respond to key issues and ensure that deliverables are provided within budget and in a timely manner;
  • Overseeing or managing project tasks, including interpretation of data, analysis, and development of conclusions and recommendations;
  • Contributing to significant sections of proposals and preparing complete reports, as well as assisting with the review and finalization of other deliverables;
  • Providing technical direction and mentorship to junior staff;
  • Leading and participating in meetings and/or supporting public consultation events and initiatives as part of the EA process;
  • Contributing to group or team goals, management and planning;
  • Regularly contacting clients and managing client expectations;
  • Working with local and regional teams to identify work opportunities and support business development initiatives; and,
  • Demonstrating awareness and understanding of risk and liabilities, and ability to prioritise competing interests.

Job Requirements:

The EA team in Atlantic Canada consists of senior, intermediate and junior staff with expertise in various technical disciplines that are key components of EA such as: terrestrial and aquatic ecology, atmospheric sciences and cultural science. The St. John’s office is part of the Atlantic Canada team, and of the larger national and international teams.

We are seeking an intermediate staff member with experience in EA.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Undergraduate degree specializing in a related technical environmental discipline;
  • Master’s degree in an environmental assessment-related capacity preferred;
  • Experience leading, preparing and managing multi-disciplinary EAs;
  • Experience managing large and/or complex projects with strict budgets and timelines;
  • A strong understanding of the Newfoundland and Labrador and Canadian EA legislation and processes;
  • An understanding of international EA standards, guidelines and processes preferred;
  • A highly motivated and dedicated personality, committed to delivering excellence;
  • Strong project management skills;
  • Excellent writing, organizational and process management skills;
  • Ability to frame and communicate complex issues into simple tasks;
  • Keen interest in building effective networks, interacting with clients, fostering lasting relationships and building our business;
  • Focus and commitment to providing quality deliverables in a timely fashion;
  • Focus on health and safety in the workplace and willingness to lead and promote our health and safety culture;
  • Ability to function in a team setting, accept responsibility and work to deadlines;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Valid driver’s license; and,
  • Bilingualism is an asset.
