Role Overview:
AMEC Environment & Infrastructure has an immediate, full-time employment opportunity for an Environmental Assessment (EA) Specialist in St. John’s, NL. The successful candidate will join our EA and Regulatory team working on a range of projects throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Involved in the planning and completion of EAs for proposed development projects in various industry sectors (mining, electricity, oil and gas and others) and of various EA types / levels under provincial and/or federal processes.
  • Involved in coordinating, completing and reviewing environmental and socioeconomic studies (baseline, modelling, monitoring) and Aboriginal, stakeholder and public consultation programs associated with such EAs, as well as eventual project permitting.
  • Preparation of proposals, EAs and other environmental study reports, and other documents. Associated research, analysis and report writing.
  • Collaboration with other AMEC staff and offices on projects, particularly for larger EAs and other multi-disciplinary assignments. The position will require travel throughout different regions of the Province.

Role Requirements:

  • Must have prior and direct experience in the completion of EAs for proposed development projects under provincial / territorial and / or federal EA processes, including the planning and writing of such assessments as part of interdisciplinary EA teams.
  • The ideal candidate would be a highly versatile individual who is a university graduate in environmental studies or other relevant disciplines in the physical, biological and/or social sciences or in engineering. Preferably with a Masters degree in a related field, and with considerable related work experience.
  • Good knowledge of EA processes, structures and methodologies, including provincial and federal EA legislation and regulations, and of development projects (various sectors) and their associated environmental issues.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills (English), as well as strong organizational abilities, with the capability to manage and prioritize several assignments at one time with a view to delivery on time and on budget.
