Going Where The Wind Blows

July 25, 2017 | Written By: Matt Rumboldt

Over the next few years, electricity prices are going to rise in Newfoundland and Labrador from under 10 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh) to over 20 cents per kWh. Fortunately, NEIA member Wreckhouse Energy are here to help.

Wreckhouse Energy consists of two entrepreneurial engineers who are positioning themselves to offer relief for rural business owners on the island by harnessing the power of wind. Now that the province’s Net Metering policy is in effect, Wreckhouse Energy doesn’t want to miss the opportunity to provide a cost-effective and low maintenance way for businesses to take advantage of this policy, to cut down on their electricity costs and even sell their excess energy back to the grid.

Wreckhouse Energy plans to install wind turbines and they are offering rental services where the installation and maintenance is taken care of by them, while the customer pays a monthly rental fee which guarantees savings without taking any risks. Their monthly turbine fees will be priced so that all energy you produce will be lower per kWh than grid prices, saving you money immediately after install. The aim of the company is to give rural businesses a way for them to get in on net metering at a low cost.

What makes this business even more appealing, is Wreckhouse Energy will manage your turbines at no additional cost to you. This includes, commissioning, preventative maintenance, repairs, performance monitoring, and disposal at the end of its life. Their program will ensure a safe and worry free turbine installation with no hidden costs. They are currently working to establish production deals with Canadian turbine producers and installation firms to ensure that each turbine is professionally installed and will give you immediate return on your investment.

To really get this initiative off the ground and rolling, Wreckhouse Energy is currently accepting applications for wind turbine installation – with the goal of having some installed by the fall of this year. Once an application has been submitted, they will assess your property, design the installation, and complete the required application paperwork for you at no cost.

To encourage businesses to hop on board, they have compiled a list of FAQ’s, Any municipal restrictions and regulations for your communities, information on the turbines they supply and even a calculator to show the savings you could achieve.

Wreckhouse Energy aims to make moving toward a renewable energy solution for your business, as seamless as possible. The Net Metering policy gives everyone in our province the opportunity to look into more sustainable energy resources and lowering your own power bills, even being able to make money back. With Wreckhouse Energy, taking your own business in this direction is as simple and the motivation to do so.
