Job Opportunity: Geotechnical Technician – LVM | Maritime Testing

Formerly Maritime Testing, our firm has now joined with LVM and is looking for a Geotechnical Technician to join its new St. John’s office. Reporting to the Team Leader, your main task will be to collaborate on various projects related to geotechnical engineering. You will also play a key role in the development of the new office. More specifically, you will:

Responsibilities

  • Conduct geotechnical inspections, proof tests, subsurface investigations, field measurements, and record observations for various construction projects;
  • Carry out field compaction (nuclear density gauge), concrete, and asphalt tests including coring;
  • Obtain field samples and conduct routine laboratory tests on soils, aggregates, and concrete in accordance with applicable procedures and standards including CSA and ASTM;
  • Communicate results with client, contractor, and LVM Maritime Testing supervisor;
  • Record field test results into database, print test reports, prepare draft inspection reports.

Requirements

  • Civil Engineering Technology Diploma or any relevant combination of experience and training;
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in soils, aggregate, and concrete testing;
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle;
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout Newfoundland and Labrador on an occasional basis.
