DFO is a science-based department that relies on a vibrant science program to provide data, information, and expert scientific analysis and advice to support decision-making and policy and program delivery. Its Ecosystem and Oceans Science Sector (the “Science” Sector) includes a large number of science staff who possess a broad range of expertise in ocean and freshwater research.
As recently announced, DFO is undertaking a recruitment campaign to staff a range of science positions, across the country, in the following core areas of research:
- Assessment of aquatic resources (including fish stocks, marine mammals and species-at-risk)
- Dynamics of aquatic invasive species
- Aquaculture-environmental interactions
- Ecosystem health, including approaches for ecosystem modelling and ecosystem-based management
- Conservation management of aquatic biological diversity
- Ecosystem stressors and evaluating their impacts on aquatic ecosystems
- Biological, chemical, physical, and fisheries oceanography, both coastal and offshore
