Export Internship for Trade Graduates (EITG) Program
NOTE: This opportunity has expired or is an event which has already taken place.

The Export Internship for Trade Graduates (EITG) Program is designed to offer work opportunities for Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) university and college graduates, and to provide potential and existing exporters with quality trade advisory services.
The EITG, an initiative between the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Technology (NATI) and ACOA, will provide hands-on work experience for NL graduates and will contribute towards strengthening the export performance of the province by encouraging SMEs to initiate and expand export activities.
The purpose of the EITG is three-fold:
- To provide practical, hands-on work experience for new post-secondary graduates in the areas of trade and investment, and to increase qualified trade expertise within the region;
- To enable the participating companies to develop their export capabilities through the provision of in-house trade advisory services;
- To increase the export sales of NL-based companies.
The key objectives of the Export Internship for Trade Graduates (EITG) are to:
- Provide practical experience for new graduates in the areas of trade and investment;
- Create stronger ties between NATI and the private sector throughout the NL business community; and
- Equip the participating companies with in-house knowledge and expertise.
The EITG will match graduates of selected universities and colleges, who have completed formal training in the area of trade, with both new and established export firms in NL. NATI, with ACOA funding, will provide the support to implement, monitor and evaluate the program on a yearly basis. Staff from NATI will be available to the interns and participating companies, as mentors, to guide and assist them in developing their trade objectives.
The intern will:
- Have complete a trade curriculum or trade courses acceptable to NATI and the participating firms;
- Participate in the development of an export strategy and action plan with the NL company;
- Undertake market and/or sector research;
- Participate in international trade shows and/or missions;
- Identify and follow-up on potential and qualified leads;
- Identify potential for new products; or
- Suggest changes to the product offering to meet market demands, etc.; and
- Formally communicate progress reports to NATI and the company.
The participating firms will:
- Engage a graduate for a period of 1 year, providing them with employment opportunities in their area of study;
- Allow interns to apply their learning in a proper and appropriate business environment;
- Contribute 25% towards the graduate’s salary and benefits;
- Equip the intern with the necessary resources;
- Include export as an integral part of their business strategy;
- Demonstrate they have the commitment, desire and means to implement an export strategy; and
- Formally communicate monitoring results to NATI.
