CAREER OPPORTUNITY: Chief Executive Officer, Port of Argentia

Where Potential Launches Opportunity.

The Port of Argentia (The Port) is a private, not-for-profit organization on the southeastern portion of Newfoundland, in scenic Placentia Bay. The Port is an economic driver for the region with a diverse group of users including marine transportation, manufacturing, construction, offshore oil, and mining. Classified as a heavy industrial seaport, the Port is in a strategic location and is ice free all year. The Port is dedicated to working with regional communities, all levels of government, and clients to serve as a continuing catalyst for the economic, social and cultural development of the Placentia Region.

On behalf of the Port of Argentia, we are seeking a dynamic Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with a vision of effective leadership and optimization for the Port and its industrial properties, enhancing the region’s economic vitality and quality of life.

As the CEO you will have the opportunity to lead, promote, and represent the organization by working with the volunteer Board of Directors to provide strategic direction and effective management of the operation of the Port and its tenants, and generate economic development which will positively impact the Placentia Region. You will have accountability, responsibility, and authority for the strategic, financial, administrative, marketing, human resources and government/public relations management of the Port in accordance with strategic direction, values, guiding principles and policies adopted by the Board. As the CEO, you will link governance and executive functions, by supporting and advising the Board in the setting of strategic plans and policies, then leading the management team toward successful execution. You will serve as a passionate and compelling ambassador for the Port and you will ensure the organization has a strong presence and voice in the local community and beyond.

As the ideal candidate, you are a demonstrated leader and manager and you bring vision, managerial acumen, and exceptional communication and relationship building skills. You are comfortable working within a multi-stakeholder environment and managing operations, financial and human resources. You have a reputation for getting things done and improving operational processes, a talent for identifying innovative opportunities, and a proven track record of successfully contributing across all functional areas of an organization. You are comfortable making a presentation at the front of the room or rolling your sleeves up to help where needed. Your positive management style, combined with your business management aptitude and your proven ability to build strong, lasting relationships with a range of organizational stakeholders align with our ideal candidate profile.
