A Look at NEIA’s recent Trade Mission to the Caribbean!

Well, Hello again! It’s me again – your favourite Marketing and Comms guy. Well at least your favourite at NEIA. It’s been a little while since our last blog and Kieran has been pushing out some excellent stories on the Newleef 2017 Blog. If you’ve missed them or want to keep up with what’s happening leading up to Newleef, check out this link.

It’s been a very busy end of summer for the crew at NEIA but I’ve decided to peel my eyes away from everything Newleef for a moment and share some stories from our recent Trade Mission to the Caribbean.

A couple of weeks back, NEIA returned from a very successful mission to Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, St. Lucia and Barbados. They successfully navigated around the hurricanes to bring down a delegation of our members to form new business relationships and open the market for export to these NL companies.

This mission to the Caribbean marks the fifth time travelling to this region since 2015 and the second time in 2017 – this is the first time NEIA travelled with delegates to Guyana. These missions have proved to generate projects and exports for local companies within our membership. The decision to travel to Guyana this go around, is a result of extensive offshore oil resources and through The Guyana Office for Investment, there is a keen objective to develop an internal market in Guyana. The similarities in that market and how it relates to the early days of our own industry allows for a unique opportunity, for our members, to share their own experiences and create new partnerships in this market and region.

As always – NEIA recognizes the support of our good friends at ACOA and The Department of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation (TCII or TC2, if you are within the walls of the NEIA office) for the constant support on these very successful missions. These Trade Missions allow for the most interactive and on-the-ground experiences for our members and provide opportunities for NL companies to diversify their markets and support our province’s economy through export and trade.

In the next few weeks, this blog will be looking at some of the members who took part in this trade mission and some of their successes and stories as a result of being part of NEIA’s delegation, so stay tuned!

There was a significant amount of media coverage around the mission, that you might not have caught wind of, so please check out some of the links below to read more about how these trade missions are received by local sources in the Caribbean and what it means for the economy in those regions.
