Two of NEIA’s Members Win Big at the NLOWE Entrepreneur of the Year Awards

November 6, 2018 | Written By: Matt

On October 25, 2018 The Newfoundland and Labrador Organization of Women Entrepreneurs (NLOWE) celebrated and honoured outstanding women entrepreneurs at their red carpet Entrepreneur of the Year Awards. This was the 21st year for the annual awards celebration that recognizes women in business and their achievements across the province, showcasing their important contributions to the local economy and to their communities.

We wanted to take this opportunity to recognize two of NEIA’s members who were given awards at NLOWE’s Entrepreneur of the Year Awards. Judith Bobbitt, Owner of Oceans Ltd., was awarded NLOWE’s Trailblazer award, sponsored by Cox & Palmer, and Erin Stapleton, owner of Stapleton Environmental Consulting Inc. won the Momentum Award, sponsored by Husky Energy.

Judith, and Oceans Ltd., have been a longtime member of NEIA – the Trailblazer Award was handed to Judith because of her work as a women entrepreneur who operates a business that has excelled in a non-traditional industry. Judith, and Oceans Ltd., have established themselves as leaders in investigating the marine environment and its applications, most recently announcing a ground-breaking discovery in the properties of Newfoundland and Labrador seaweed that will be a game changer in breast cancer treatment. Judith said at the Entrepreneur of the Year Awards that “Winning this award shows me that other people have been recognizing the work we have been doing for the community” and shared a piece of advice for other entrepreneurs saying “Follow whatever you are interested in, I feel like it is always individuals who make a difference.”

NEIA wants to extend a sincere congratulations on this achievement and for being a trailblazer for other entrepreneurs to follow and find success.

Below is Judith’s video for winning the Trailblazer Award:

Erin Stapleton, who not only operates Stapleton Environmental Consulting Inc. but is also a Director on NEIA’s Board of Directors, was the recipient of the Momentum Award. The Momentum Award recognizes an entrepreneur who has demonstrated significant growth and/or growth potential within a one to three year time span. Erin was recognized for having built a business that is adaptable and with the aptitude to successfully leverage opportunities for continued growth.

Stapleton Environmental Consulting Inc. collaborates with private sector firms, non-profits, governments, and communities to develop and deliver programs, policies and projects that reduce our environmental impact, engage our citizens, and support the growth of our green and blue economies. Upon receipt of the award, Erin stated “I am thrilled to be recognized for my ability to leverage opportunities in the province’s environmental and clean technology sector. I am proud to be building a successful business in Newfoundland and Labrador while supporting the global transition towards a lower-carbon economy. NLOWE and NEIA provide complementary services to women entrepreneurs in the green economy – services which have been invaluable to me.”

NEIA wants to send along congratulations on winning the Momentum Award and also for being such a outstanding member of ours, whose involvement with NEIA provides us with the momentum required to be a successful Industry Association!

It’s women like Judith and Erin (and all the other award winners) that set the stage for innovation and for other entrepreneurs, both for men and women, to pursue their passions in our province. They are examples of how Newfoundland and Labrador can continue to grow as a leader in entrepreneurship, in both traditional and non-traditional industries.

Congratulations once again!
