Smart Bushings for the Smart Grid Devices

July 13, 2017 | Written By: Matt Rumboldt

Good for customers, Good for revenue and Good for the environment.

Have you ever looked up a the power lines and wondered what those spirals are at the ends of the wires? I mean, I haven’t – but someone had to put them there and someone has to make sure they do their job. It’s technology like that, that the average person will overlook and not see their function or importance. Without them the electricity wouldn’t even pass through the wires and well, you wouldn’t have any power. Those “spirals” (actually called bushings) are an insulated device that allows an electrical conductor to pass safely through things like power lines and circuit breakers.

The issue is that a lot of these can cause inefficiencies when it comes to conducting electricity, NEIA member Power HV Energy (PHV) have developed a technology that gives an 80% savings in electricity loss, compared to the traditional products primarily used. These energy efficent bushings deliver more electricity to the end user, which allows the electricity provider to generate more revenue and protect the environment by minimizing losses.

Below is a Video, by Power HV CEO Dr. Sizwe Dhlamini to explain Power HV’s 80% energy efficient bushings, because who can explain it better than the creator himself:

Below are some images of Power HV’s energy efficient bushings & sensors being built and tested in their facility.
