Rutter Inc., headquartered in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada is a developer of radar and advanced radar signal processing technologies for the marine safety, security, and environmental monitoring and protection industries.
Rutter provides advanced radar technologies that enable end users to identify threats and take coordinated action in response. Rutter’s signal processing, recording and playback capabilities integrate with navigational or dedicated-purpose x-band radar assets to provide enhanced situational awareness which promotes efficiency in a variety of end use situations. Industrial applications of Rutter’s products include oil spill response management, coastal surveillance, ice navigation and ice management planning, wave and current monitoring for offshore construction, exploration and production operations, and early detection of illegal and dangerous small craft at sea.
Rutter’s products include the sigma S6 Ice Navigator™, Small Target Surveillance, and Oil Spill Detection product lines as well as the WaMoS® II wave and current monitoring system developed by subsidiary company OceanWaveS GmbH. sigma S6 systems substantially improve detection and tracking capabilities, create high resolution images and provide decision support information for applications such as; Iceberg detection and sea ice management; Security, surveillance and seismic array anti-fouling; and, Oil spill detection and response management. The WaMoS® II wave and current monitoring product uses X-band radar to provide real-time data about significant wave height, peak wave period, peak wave direction, surface current speed and direction to manage operational risk and support safe operations at sea. sigma and WaMoS® products are available in combination to provide consolidated information reporting and decision support.
Rutter engages with educational and industrial partners to advance the technologies and develop applications of its radar-based applications. Rutter is presently engaged in research and development projects promoting engagement with industrial partners and fostering the development of market-ready technologies.
With its vision of making the maritime environment safer, Rutter continues to innovate and expand its product line and capabilities to address various challenges in the marine industries. As exploration moves towards increasingly environmentally sensitive areas, Rutter’s sigma S6 technology provides the real-time detection and tracking capability that is a key element in navigation safety and environmental protection.
