Meetings & Initiatives

Meetings & Initiatives.

Member Engagement

NEIA endeavours to represent members on issues of common concern and work to create the conditions for sector development to take place; NEIA is a membership driven association and firm engagement is important. NEIA is the ideal forum for businesses in the environmental sector in Newfoundland and Labrador to share their ideas, concerns, and issues which can affect the sector. NEIA is able to address these items with elected officials and government departments at all levels to both raise awareness of the sector’s issues with decision makers and push for desired outcomes.

NEIA encourages its members to bring these ideas, concerns, and issues to the association’s attention – to ensure that NEIA can work in an advocacy role on its behalf. Members wishing to discuss issues and ideas with NEIA can contact us at 709.237.8090 or at info@neia.org.

Committee Participation

NEIA represents the interests of the green economy in its participation with a number of organizations, groups, and committees. This participation includes membership with the:

  • Newfoundland and Labrador Business Coalition;
  • Strategic Partnership (Innovation Committee);
  • City of St. John’s Environmental Advisory Committee;
  • Multi Materials Stewardship Board’s Indiscriminate Waste Working Group;
  • Multi Materials Stewardship Board’s Waste Management Innovation Fund Committee;
  • Harris Centre – MMSB Waste Management Applied Research Fund Selection Committee;
  • Harris Centre – RBC Water Research and Outreach Fund Selection Committee; and
  • City of St. John’s Affordable Housing Action Committee.

Ministerial Meetings

NEIA works closely year-round with the provincial departments of Environment & Conservation and Innovation, Business, & Rural Development who are both important partners in the growth of Newfoundland and Labrador’s environmental sector. However, NEIA will also meet annually with the Ministers of these departments to communicate directly its priorities and objectives to achieve its aims.

Stakeholder Meetings

To advance its agenda, NEIA will seek out or respond to meeting requests from environmental sector decision makers at all levels of government, within the private sector, and throughout NGOs from the community to the international level.
