On April 1, 2015, FCM renewed its Green Municipal Fund (GMF) program offerings to continue to respond to evolving municipal sustainability needs and priorities. This includes funding support for plans, studies, pilot projects and capital projects across Canada with the aim to improve air, water, and soil, and mitigate the impacts of climate change.
Waste is a sector of municipal activity in which GMF is committed to supporting innovative ideas and practices in communities across the country. We fund projects aimed at waste diversion such as reuse programs or centres, recycling programs or centres, composting and other biological programs or centres, and thermal treatment processes. Another type of project that is eligible for funding addresses specific waste stream challenges, such as the building of a facility to treat polystyrene or other plastics that are difficult to divert from landfills.
