JOB OPPORTUNITY: Environmental Professional/Technician (Junior)

Golder Associates is seeking a dynamic Environmental Professional/Technician (Junior) to join their Geo-Environmental team in St. John’s, Newfoundland. The successful candidate will work with our St. John’s Office, which consists of professional geoscientists, engineers, environmental specialists and technicians.

An overview of your role will include:

  • Carrying out supporting tasks for preparation of Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), including: compilation and review and historical and regulatory information, and carrying out interviews and site visits under the guidance of experienced staff;
  • Under guidance from senior staff, participate in a variety of field investigations including: wastewater sampling; surface water quality assessments; groundwater level monitoring and monitoring well installation; soil, sediment and groundwater quality investigations (Phase II ESAs and hydrogeological assessments); and/or monitoring of site remediation programs (Phase III ESAs);
  • Being involved with the co-ordination and/or execution of various environmental projects at a junior level, including: waste management, demolition and decommissioning, environmental due diligence, construction site environmental monitoring and contaminated site related projects; including interpretation of data, analysis, and development of conclusions and recommendations.
  • Contributing to proposals and preparing reports, as well as assisting with the quality control and finalization of other deliverables; and,
  • Assisting project managers with office duties such as data management, analysis and interpretation and other general office duties.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Work under the supervision of a senior team member, with the opportunity to rapidly assume increasing autonomy and responsibility;
  • Liaise with Golder staff external to St. John’s, to assist as required;
  • Interacting with contractors and sub consultants;
  • Travel within Atlantic Canada when required to conduct project work;
  • Demonstrating a “Safety-First” focus;
  • Presenting a professional demeanor in the field, office and meetings, and performance of duties proficiently to make a positive impression on clients and demonstrating a commitment to our Core Values; and,
  • Participate in a team environment outside of the environmental discipline, e.g., geotechnical, hydrogeology, materials testing.

You will have a background in:

  • A minimum of a College Diploma in Environmental Technician/ Technologist or related discipline, a Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Environmental Science or other related discipline would be considered an asset;
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant field experience is preferred, but consideration will be given to strong candidates who may not fulfill this requirement;
  • Familiarity with the regulatory environment in Newfoundland & Labrador, including standards, guidelines, and processes;
  • Excellent work ethic with strong organization and time management skills;
  • Strong team player – ability to work with all levels of an organization and work to deadlines;
  • Detail oriented with focus on quality of work;
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills;
  • Flexibility to work extra hours including weekends and evenings to meet project commitments and for business travel when required; and,
  • Previous geotechnical and materials testing experience is considered an asset;
  • Registration or eligibility to register with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador is considered an asset; and,
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
