The economic news in the province is almost unremittingly bleak: low oil prices, low prices for minerals, a decline in shellfish, government layoffs, declining rural populations – and the list goes on. So there is no question that Newfoundland and Labrador is going through a difficult period.

What’s worse, this rough patch doesn’t feel like the previous ones. Before, we could simply wait it out; we could wait until commodity prices rebounded or fish stocks rebounded, and then all would be well with the world. But this time feels different because there are fewer of us to share the burden, and we’re older, and the world around us has changed.

It’s easy to fall into a spiral of despair – until we become aware of the new potential for this province. Newfoundland and Labrador is reinventing itself in new ways that hold much promise for the people of the province.
This session will shine a spotlight on initiatives that will create new economic activity in this province, allowing us to employ our residents, attract skilled immigrants, export our goods and services – and remain sustainable over the long term.

The session will feature speakers who are experts in their field and who will briefly talk about their vision for their sector. Join us to hear their inspiring messages and to contribute your own thoughts about the future of our economy.

The panelists will include representatives from:

  • The information and communications technology sector (Kendra MacDonald)
  • The oil & gas sector (Sean Power)
  • The mining sector (Ed Moriarty)
  • The capture fishery and aquaculture (Robert Verge)
  • Tourism and hospitality (Marieke Gow)
  • Memorial University of Newfoundland (Andy Fisher)

Come hear what they have to say, and add your opinion! Register here.
