FITTskills Legal Aspects of International Trade

The Department of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation will be hosting a Forum for International Trade Training (FITT) – FITTskills one day training focused on the topic of Legal Aspects of International Trade. This workshop will give you an introduction to international law, international contracts, legal aspects of international sale of goods, international partnership agreements, international intellectual property law, legal aspects of e-commerce and resolution of disputes.

Time: 8:30am- 4:30pm
Location: Lester’s Farm Chalet, 92 Pearltown Rd, St. John’s

The participants will be able to:

  • Learn the basic legal principles involved in international business
  • Avoid costly legal battles by identifying the basic rights and obligations of buyers and sellers
  • Understand how to minimize intellectual property problems and handle legal issues arising from e-commerce.

Dr. Leroy Lowe is back as the guest instructor for this training. Dr. Lowe is a former Aerospace Engineering Officer and Project Manager in the Canadian Airforce. He previously worked for Sparton of Canada as Director of Business Development where he recruited and managed a diverse network of agents, distributors and strategic alliance partners in over 20 countries. Currently, he is a full-time faculty member in International Business at the Nova Scotia Community College and an active international business development consultant. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree, a Diploma in Engineering, a Master Degree in Adult Education (MAEd), an MBA, and a PhD. He is a Certified International Trade Professional (CITP) and over the past two decades he has helped many small-to-medium sized businesses (in many sectors) with all aspects of exporting.
