Do you want to make a contribution to the stewardship of Canada’s three oceans and its aquatic resources?

DFO is a career destination of choice for aquatic science professionals. With research facilities across the country, its science staff is at the cutting edge of aquatic sciences.

DFO is a science-based department that relies on a vibrant science program to provide data, information, and expert scientific analysis and advice to support decision-making and policy and program delivery. Its Ecosystem and Oceans Science Sector (the “Science” Sector) includes a large number of science staff who possess a broad range of expertise in ocean and freshwater research.

As recently announced, DFO is undertaking a recruitment campaign to staff a range of science positions, across the country, in the following core areas of research:

  • Assessment of aquatic resources (including fish stocks, marine mammals and species-at-risk)
  • Dynamics of aquatic invasive species
  • Aquaculture-environmental interactions
  • Ecosystem health, including approaches for ecosystem modelling and ecosystem-based management
  • Conservation management of aquatic biological diversity
  • Ecosystem stressors and evaluating their impacts on aquatic ecosystems
  • Biological, chemical, physical, and fisheries oceanography, both coastal and offshore
