FCM provides funding for innovative environmental projects for municipalities and regions

Does your municipality need funding for an environmental initiative that will help make your community more sustainable, from creating new bike paths, to finding alternative fuel sources, to building a new energy-efficient municipal facility?

Apply by March 1, 2019 for funding for your project related to:

  • Energy efficiency and recovery
  • Transportation and fuel efficiency
  • Waste management and diversion
  • Water quality and conservation

FCM’s Green Municipal Fund offers loans of up to $5 to $10 million with grants to Canadian municipalities of all sizes for innovative environmental capital projects that can help improve the quality of air, water or land in your community.

What could your community do with funding for an innovative sustainability project?
With funding from FCM’s Green Municipal Fund, a consortium of 56 Alberta municipalities is studying a plan to consolidate their solid waste at a single facility, then use the waste to produce energy for sale. Estimates suggest the project could reduce the region’s greenhouse gas emissions from waste by 20 per cent, divert more than 70 per cent of waste from landfill and provide significant social, environmental and economic benefits. The feasibility study will consider cost, environmental impacts, technical issues and potential markets for the energy produced.

This is just one example of what the fund can be used for. Click here for more information.
