DFO launches “Fisheries and Aquaculture Clean Technology Adoption Program”

NOTE: This opportunity has expired or is an event which has already taken place.

The Fisheries and Aquaculture Clean Technology Adoption Program is a national contribution program. It’s investing $20 million over 4 years (2017 to 2021) to assist Canada’s fisheries and aquaculture industries in reducing the potential environmental impacts of their activities.

The program offers funding to assist eligible participants in implementing market-ready clean technologies, processes and sustainable practices into their day-to-day operations. The program provides funding for up to 75% of eligible project costs. All project proposals submitted for consideration must also include at least 10% confirmed provincial and territorial government funding that’s cash or in-kind.

To be eligible, you must be active in, or support activities related to, the fish and seafood sectors like harvesting, aquaculture, or processing. You must also be one of the following:

  • a commercial enterprise, including:
    • companies
    • individuals (self-employed)
    • an Indigenous organization, such as:
    • groups
    • associations
    • communities
  • an industry or professional association

Eligible activities under the program include putting into effect market-ready:

  • clean processes
  • clean technologies
  • sustainable practices, such as protocols and harvesting techniques

This includes changes in the day-to-day operations of:

  • wild capture harvesting
  • aquaculture facilities
  • processing plants

Funding also supports adapting these clean technologies and measures in order to use them in Canadian operating conditions.
