Case studies: Learn how your municipality can tackle climate change

Looking for ways to support climate change initiatives in your community? Learn from our latest success stories from the City of Pickering, ON, and City of Whitehorse, YT. Both cities have completed Milestone 5 in the Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) program framework — our highest distinction.

The City of Pickering developed initiatives that include:

  • Energy audits, retrofits and upgrades of city facilities
  • A community group program to create environmental projects including tree planting to electronics recycling

The City of Whitehorse implemented climate change projects such as:

  • An action plan to increase recycling and composting, and reduce landfill waste
  • A new bylaw that requires energy efficiency in new home construction
  • An energy conservation initiative for the city’s recreation facility
