A New Charge We Can Live With

May 24, 2017 | Written By: Matt Rumboldt

Bring on the charging stations!

Electric Vehicles (EV’s) are quickly being adopted around the world and that trend is making it’s way into Newfoundland and Labrador. In St. John’s we have our own EV dealership Green Rock EVS – A Division of EVEN Electric

Aside from Green Rock’s commitment to EV sales in the province, they also work hard to implement a functioning infrastructure for those who are currently driving or looking to purchase an Electric Vehicle. Most recently NEIA and Green Rock EVS worked with the Avalon Mall in St. John’s, as part of their 50th anniversary renovation work, to unveil two level-2 electric car-charging stations in the Mall’s Parkade. This is a big step in the right direction for EV’s and seeing local organizations making EV charging a priority, is highly motivating. These two new stations mark number 99 & 100 charging stations in NL. Around 30 of those charging stations are privately owned by EV drivers in the province.

There are Three different levels of charging stations available, level 1, 2 and 3. To learn more about the basics of EV charging, click here. There are currently no level 3 charging stations in the province but if you check out Green Rock EVS’ website below you can see, not only their fleet of vehicles but also all of the charging equipment they offer to support the industry.

These charging stations are for Electric Vehicle parking only, and you can be ticketed for parking there in your gas vehicles. EV drivers refer to having these spots unavailable, as being #ICED (Internal-Combustion Engined car has parked in a space reserved for plug-in electric cars.)

A link to VOCM’s news article on the charging station installation is available here as well.
